question mark

In April, the Afghan parliament passed legislation which was then was signed into law by President Hamid Karzai that allowed rape in marriage.  The West, including the President condemned the legislation which amounted to legalized degradation and violent attacks on women.  .. See CNN report here…

Days later President Obama in Turkey stated:

“We seek broader engagement based on mutual interest and mutual respect. We will listen carefully, we will bridge misunderstandings, and we will seek common ground. We will be respectful, even when we do not agree. We will convey our deep appreciation for the Islamic faith. . . . Many other Americans have Muslims in their families or have lived in a Muslim-majority country. I know, because I am one of them.” (emphasis mine)

Mr. President exactly why are we, as Americans, supposed to “appreciate” regarding the Islamic faith?  From where I am sitting, nothing within the Islamic religion offers even a hint of the most elementary thread of human decency extended toward women.  The very fact that “honor killings” are practiced in Islamic societies and have began to infiltrate US society, underscores how this misogynistic control over females needs to be condemned.  While the world, in general, may wish to deny the evils that are common within Islam, some brave women do speak out regarding this overt genocide of females.

What is it we are supposed to understand regarding the Islamic religion?  Outside of the fact Islam treats women less than human and sanctions the use of maiming, stoning, having acid thrown in their face because of their desire to be educated (Afghan Girls attacked) and advocates murder, what else do we need to understand?

The story, regarding the Afghan legislation allowing rape takes a hideous turn, while the legislation which permitted and legally sanctioned these rapes was sent back to be amended; new legislation has emerged which allows for these women to be starved,  The Independent was the first to comment on this in July and now  The Guardian has picked up the story.

Why has the mainstream US media been silent on this abuse of women?  Why hasn’t the President spoken out regarding this abuse?  Why are NOW, the Feminist Majority and other self-proclaimed feminist groups NOT condemning the President on his silence?

Perhaps there is a message in the President’s words and lack of action? I wonder if I am alone, in finding a potential correlation with him dedicating a page on his website to a self-described defender of the blatant misogyny Islam perpetrates against women?   You be the judge.. h/t to Atlas Shrugs.
